does anyone know how to fix when the start menu has no icon or texts? the same thing happens to the tabs in edge or right clicking an app in the task bar

    I have a NVidia gpu.

this has happened since retail and on the current insider version

You may have video driver problem, First go to Nvidia site, find the correct driver for your card, download it to your desktop, then open device manager, go down to where it says display adapters, open it and delete the driver that's there, do not reboot yet as it will install same driver on your computer, open the driver you downloaded to desktop, install it, reboot, see if that fixes it:D

Well open device manager, delete the driver that's in there, then reboot:D

    Did that do anything,
did you ever have a AMD video card in your computer
Most computer makers have diagnostics tests on their site, you may need to test and see if video card is OK

Or if you have a spare video card, put it in.

You running any sort of theming app? Upgrade or clean install?
To rule out the graphics driver you can try switching the driver to the basic display driver.

Ah, one of those magical all-in-one repair tools. I'm sure that one knows perfectly well how to deal with the latest prerelease builds, right?
But hey, there's always the option of reformatting in case it doesn't...

Since a new build will be out soon I would simply upgrade system, no clean install, put installation disk in system tray while windows is running, In this PC select CD/DVD ROM, then setup, then upgrade.:D

This is not for Insider preview but regular OS

Pretty sure nobody here needs instructions on how to perform an OS upgrade.

its fixed many issues from xp to 10.. not sure but it should be fine on insider build.

to add he will likely need to reupgrade.. but why insiderbuild ?? buggy sometimes.

It's really weird to have so many such strange advices, even if the original data is not available. Only some weird image. But, nevertheless, there are a number of tips, how to fix it. Even if not known, what is needed to repair.
If You really need help, You must first tell, which computer it is, what you did before this happens, what other software You uses, for example what cleaners, is there default system or is there some kind of third party software installed or removed (uninstalled) just before it happenes. Etc.
Most probably You have simply damaged Windows what needs to repair or reinstall.
Of course you can try to clean the icon cache, but it seems that it will not help you.
If you have some kind of suspicious registry cleaner, you may also have "too clean" register, and repair it? You can not improve it, unless there is a backup.
If you give more information, can something more exactly to say.

If not always, then this means that Windows does not open properly. (Sometimes opens correctly, sometimes not). The best method to fix - download the latest version and make new, clean installation, You can maintain all your files and folders, but not (recommended) the settings.
