My machine has just been updated with the December fixes and is now at 18362.535.

However my friend's computer is at version 18363.535.

Could some kind person explain why mine is still at 18362? Thanks.

Versions 18362 and 18363 are identical.

There must be reasons Microsoft gave two different build numbers, yes?

Yes. The reason is just one update.

To upgrade to 18363 you only need to install kb4517245, which is the enablment package.
