    EDIT!
Asked Microsoft online support for help all they did was force windows 10 to install

Is it possible to roll back to windows 7?

When i logged onto my laptop today Windows told me Windows 10 was ready to install
I didnt choose to do the update but now Windows 7 is not allowing me to do the normal windows 7 updates

how can i remove it, i have rebooted several times to no avail

remove KB3035583 and reboot , hide it if WU find it as a new update.

Yeah had same problem :D updated to windows 10 just to get machine hwid registered then rolled back to windows 7 and uninstalled KB3035583 to busy doing other things KB3035583 downloaded again before I had a chance to hide it in windows update and ended up with $Windows.~BT folder again  will delete again and change windows update so I am notified when updates are ready to install.

Does this mean that they are forcing the upgrade to Windows 10? If so then they are going to have some legal issues.

I am not sure but Microsoft Support gave me directions and it was installing windows 10 (unwanted) this deleted my Ubuntu partition and destroyed by GRUB Boot Loader now I have lost all my data and Microsoft are barely helping

No I would no say forcing update originally when KB3035583 had downloaded and you have the get windows 10 in notification area I did select it to reserve my copy.

Will need to check my daughters machine just fitted new hard drive and had to reinstall windows 7. Used Simplix pack to install most updates but as usual once I had finished installing software e.c.t. I then let machine connect to the net more widows updates and finally KB3035583 was installed and notification icon appeared.

As to whether windows 10 installation files have downloaded and she has $Windows.~BT folder I don't know yet.

Don't know about that but I do know once it had downloaded to your machine ( could be like myself if you selected to reserve your copy ) once it has downloaded to your machine it will keep notifying you that it is ready to upgrade and if you do click on the notification icon you cannot exit it without selecting when it will update your machine I could not even close it via task manager had to physically switch off machine.

I have done all that is mentioned in this thread...uninstall KB3035583, deleted GWX files and folder used disc cleaner, which had 5.9G of downloaded system update files, found no ~ files on C: drive, checked SYS/32 nothing there, scrubbed the drive with Cyberscrub. Now the problem: when attempting to update Win7 the screen STILL shows that Windows 10 is ready to install, which means it has been downloaded and somewhere on the computer, the download of Win10 was forced when doing previous updates and would not let me cancel...so I guess I am asking, where is it on the machine to delete and allow or reset Win7 updates to function as before. I want to remove anything related with Windows 10 from my machine.

Have you turn OFF automatic windows update and hide KB3035583. After uninstalling the KB and hiding it in windows update i don't see the pestering icon any longer.

Yes, updates are off, icon nag is gone...everything has Ben done noted on this board...however, the Windows 10 download is hiding somewhere on my machine just waiting to be installed.
I would like some help finding it so I can remove it...that's all!;)

Here is some help but, by no means the last answer...
    1. A command can be run as administrator to uninstall the update:
C:\Windows\System32\wusa.exe /quiet /uninstall /kb:3035583 (note you can pull the /quiet out if you want to see it working)
It can mostly be shortened to:
    wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:3035583
    2. There are other registry key too but, this should work, you have to make a registry (regedit) file in notepad and save as .reg

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001
    3. Do a google search for " I don't want windows 10 tool ", hopefully you will see a ghacks web site that has the free download.
Note: All this does is the same as line one and some users get a side by side error, I do not know how to fix but, think it is related to the old software the author used to make the fix. There is a full source code so I am sure someone can take that and make it MDL perfect, it is just a good starting point.
