Hi. I feel like an idiot, i've posted the same thing on so many forums now. But I don't really have a choice, cause I don't know what to do. I cleaned my hard drive in command prompt and now I'm stuck in bios. Can't do anything, not even boot my windows DVD, so I can install a new one. Do you guys have any idea on what can I do to bring my Laptop back to life? Thanks Aptio Setup Utility - Copyright ( C ) 2012 American Megatrends, Inc. Yeah sorry guys, so here's how it all started. I had perfectly working Laptop until I upgraded it to Windows 8.1, that's when it all started. I've lost all my Games, bunch of files went missing and my Laptop slowed down. So I decided to install a new Windows. I did but then it turns out, I still have all the files from previous one, because I didn't clean install it. So I thought i'll do it again, but this time I've boot it and for whatever reason I couldn't and instead of trying to fix the bios, I went ahead and deleted OS from command prompt, thinking now it have no other choice but to boot. Yes I'm an idiot
Got this one back in May. I'm trying to install Windows 8.1, but for some reason it won't boot. Also, I think bunch of stuff are missing from my bios. I can post the whole info, if you want/need. Just in case
I'm trying to boot it from DVD. I think bunch of stuff are missing because my boot options are half assed, not like everybody's else. Hold on, I'll edit the OP and post my bios info
Ok you have a DVD. and it will not boot. Where did you get the DVD from ? Is it a recovery DVD ? Have you downloaded a Win 8.1 .iso and burnt the image to DVD ? Are you 100% sure you know how to tell the BIOS to boot from the dvd ? Asus, new board. I would guess press F8 at post to bring up the BOOT MENU, select the disc drive and report back. If you are unable to boot from the dvd then, I would guess it's the disc at fault and what ever image is on there. What machine are you making this thead on ? Is its a PC ? Can you download to it ? It may be best to ditch the DVD and try using a USB. Have you got a spare 8 gig USB stick handy ?
Is this your boot order...??? Boot you lappy up into the BIOS and set the defaults. "F10" I think. If I am reading this right,if, your set to boot from LAN....Why I have no idea..
Downloaded it. To be honest, can't say I'm 100% sure on how to boot it. That' why I'm here and no i don't have USB by the way. One guy on another forum said something about taking off CMOS battery for couple minutes and it will reset my bios to its original form. Would that work?
Well it wont hurt owt.. Pressing F10 will return the BIOS to default By default it will make the hard drive "First Boot" Did you set the BIOS to default, F10 then save and reset ? Right , when you turn on your laptop keeping pressing F8 ( I am guessing your Asus is F8 ) This will bring up a boot menu. From there you can select your DVD drive. You then should boot from disc. And if you have set the BIOS default. If the install starts, once it gets to a certain point it re-boots the machine then boots from the hard drive and not the DVD.
See that bit is confusing me..... How did you get to command prompt ? from Within Windows ? Surely Windows would not delete it's self.
When I reseted my bios to default, all the boot options went missing. Now I have to disable secure boot control and enable launch CSM, but then it will just go back to how it was before reseting
Why ? I am confused. "All the BIOS boot options went missing " Is there a EASY MODE and an ADVANCED MODE ? Forgetting the BIOS "goes missing" when the BIOS is set to default can you press F8 to bring up the BOOT MENU or not ? Look, its 1:15 in the morning and my eyes are sleepy.....I am gunna have to shoot...
