some suggestion please: which motherboard is fast and compatible w/Core i7-950 3.06GHz without tweaking or overclocking? motherboard must be able to do bios mod. can i use ssd as a system only(win7 installation) and 2nd sata hard drive as storage or install other program to a 2nd drive. Is this good: plan: i7-950 MB??? 8gb ram if possible still want to use ddr2 ssd as system 1tb sata hd use for installing program ========== or should i just use the same pc but add ssd, will that help a lot in multi-task? should i see a fast boot time, from POST to desktop? able to do multi-task without slowing. For example, while ripping dvd, i want to do something else. With my current pc, if i rip a dvd, it will eat almost all my processor and very slow when open something else.
when buying a motherboard, besides the compatibility of the cpu, what other factor should i look for to have a speedy/fast computer?
I feel DDR2 would be the bottle neck with the configuration you are looking at. Considering the cost difference nowadays is negligible DDR3 would be the choice unless o0ffcourse you are planning to scavenge your older system for RAM. The motherboard recommended by Flare4000 is really good. i have built a system for my friend with same MB 6 GB RAM i7 950 and it works really well.
I guess changing my core i7-920 (June 2009) would be foolish now. i7-920 is now out of production ?, newer 1366 series at range-bound prices are better but not worth the bother of spending close to US$250-400. Might as well wait out for Sandybridge and compatible motherboards for end-2011 perhaps. Will also get USB3.0, SATA 6gbp/s then.
thx i'm not in a rush. i want to get some idea on what to look for and which are better/faster. since ssd are faster, maybe next year price get a little cheaper since technology move very fast. my goal is to boot from ssd (install window to ssd) and 2nd sata drive use for application installation like nero, adobe etc. hope it's load fast and will not slow down when doing video editing.
OS on SSD and Data on HDD is definitely the way to go. I like asus motherboard. you pay abit of premium but its bios is definitely very robust.
