    This may be a ridiculous question, but is it possible that a large software entity like Symantec, Norton or Google could create and maintain security updates for XP Sp3 post Microsoft?

    This is an awfully ridiculous question. Its impossible for third party to manage xp post 2014's security updates.

    look at previous microsoft OSes like 95,98, ME, 2000

    I wonder if Microsoft really dares to end support for Windows XP already in 2014? There are still many companies that use Windows XP.

    So they will upgrade or run unsupported system. World is not going to finish because of that
