Theres already an article about how to revert back from S mode to Regular via Xinso Master many many years ago. why theres a need to create a new thread now ?
Because this kind of subject should be pinned because there are many who are lazy and do not bother to search
Hi Team, I just ran into this yesterday on a new HP Laptop (model 15-ef1013dx) I'd bought my wife for Christmas. She wanted a 15+ inch screen with a numpad and touch screen - so the offerings around here were pretty limited with those specs. Just about the first thing she wanted to do was get Chrome as her default Browser. Of course Windows starts with all the nags and "irreversible" warnings that put her off. (A real downer for a "new" Laptop.) It's the first Laptop we've bought in some years (But I've built numerous "Boxes" all with Win 10 Pro but never heard of S mode, or really paid any attention to it if / when I did.) So I searched (yes some of us do use the search function!) and this small thread popped up first. I've never been steered wrong by this Forum, so I thought I'd ask what's the known downside to turning S Mode off? Can you advise ? Maybe I should figure out a way to upgrade it to Win 10 Pro (no S Mode either) like her desktop so the migration would be effortless for her. Thanks for the assist!
The downside is the same as a slave have if his lord or somebody else taking off chains around his legs. He is then free of these chains. The downside is that the slave is used to the legs being chained, but then is this "good feeling" gone. And the slave just can't live as a free human, he doesn't know what to do or where to go and everything usually ends with death. So, if you're no longer a slave of Microsoft, the same fate can be hit You.
Thanks for the prompt replies Gents. To me S Mode seems like a way for MS to keep people using only their applications (like Edge for example) by trying to scare them off with warnings and such. The upside seems to be MS approved Apps will supposedly not bog down the PC. Of course Apps by others are not subject to MS review so the "could" load up the PC and slow it down. I see no instance of that on the Boxes I've built with Win 10 Pro, so I'll probably be giving my wife what she wants (Chrome) and drive on without S Mode.
Firefox is available in the store. When people first look at the specs of the device they want to buy it would/should have been obvious what the OS it gets. In the past MSFT even offered free upgrades to normal pro for them.
