So I've been trying to find out if there is an activation limit on retail Technet keys for Windows 7. I am not sure if my approach was wrong but I used the combination of slmgr.vbs /upk and slmgr.vbs /ipk on a virtual machine. After 20 activations is keeps activating happily without any problems. Is there any sure way to know how many activations are left or does there have to be hardware changes before the activation limit decreases and has to be done over the phone?
I have used more than 20 activations per key. However, do not know if new subscriptions (after 16 Jul changes) will enjoy the same.
The new terms is the reason I won't be renewing my subscription any longer. I went to 41 activations and still no problems.
Before they changed everything I was under the impression it was 10 computers with unlimited activations for each machine I have used different keys WAY more than 10 times on the same PC
You was able to use more than 10 activation but needed to call to MS and spoke to an techie for to get re-activated after the 10 times per Key was exceeded!
