    Hi All
    Just A Little Info As Any Member Tried Out The Beta Release Of SP1 For Win7

    The Reason For My Question Is That My Toshiba Laptop That As Bios Modd & Running Win7
    Often Keeps Freezing When on-line Everything Sort Of Locks Up For 3-5mins
    Then Its Ok
    But This Can Happen Quite A lot During A Nighttime
    I Wonder If There was any update that is part of sp1 to reslove the problem
    As i did a google search for my Tosh problem & Got Pointed to Beta SP1
    Which i have but would like so info first
    So if anyone as tried it any info would be helpful
    Many Thanks

    ive installed it in vm with no issues. but sounds like you may have something unrelated going on to cause your lappy to freeze up.

    is it a new laptop? or an older one with a modded 2.1 slic bios?

    I did install SP1 beta on a physical machine but that was a few weeks back. I prefer to now keep beta SP1 on a VM. Install is slower on a VM but still quicker than downloading/manually installing updates.

    I'm testing SP1 Beta on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit with no issues, except for one, that is incompatibility's with Command & Conquer Generals and Zero Hour.

    Incompatibility's have already been reported to MS.

    You might wanna try this hotfix: kb 2265716. It looks like you have the same freezing problem.

    I was curious how SP1 beta sets the rearms to 5. I tested it to see for myself and SP1 wants reboot so somehow rearms can be changed without RE/PE.

    Then I uninstalled it and rearms when back to what they we're before SP1...lol

    I mean the network service isn't running at reboot yet so kinda curious :)

    Any ideas?

    ^^are you talking about rearming the grace/trial period?, if so do this;

    (works with 7 & Vista)

    1. Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
    2. After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
    3. When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
    4. Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter:

    sysprep /generalize
    slmgr.vbs –rearm
    rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
    slmgr /rearm

    5. Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage.
    6. When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. 7. After 3 rearms and nearly 120 days usage, Open regedit and go to;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ SL

    8. In right-side pane, change value of SkipRearm to 1.
    9. Now you'll be able to use the slmgr -rearm command 3 more times (steps 3 to 6)..
    10. Then after 90 days (30 day rearms) do steps 6 to 8 again.

    there is a similar thing for Office 03 & 7 so its probable Office 2010 has a similar reg key, my script making is poor but I don't think it would take muck to put it in a batch file.
