Hi Andrews, Just read your post re. the modding of Dell GX620. Appreciate if you can give me details of same. Is the modded file installed from DOS or Windows Many thanks
Installed from Windows. Phoenix Tool mods and updates the original Windows BIOS updater. So this update is dead easy. I'd recommend you download the original Windows BIOS at the same version (A09 for SX280 and A11 for GX620) and flash that first. Then run one of the modded BIOSes after the reboot - no DOS required.
It worked on my GX620 without a hitch. Used the Dell OEM Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD. Almost too easy. And I will say Windows 7 Ultimate runs just fine on a 2.8ghz P4 521 and 4GB of ram, tomorrow I should have a Pentium D 945 coming in the mail. I have been running it for a week now and it still indicates activated in the System Properties. Thanks Big Time!!
Worked fine on my DELL Optiplex GX620 with A11 bios. Installation file is dos capable!! Installed Original A11 Bios a few days ago. Downloaded Modded A11 Bios today and Installed by booting from USB stick (Win98 DOS). Verified by SLIC_ToolKit_V3.2 under WinXP. Now I just have to upgrade the DDR2 RAM (and maybe find a Pentium D chip for a decent price) before installing Win7. Thanks Andrews!!!
Come on guys, each time somebody posts GX620 modded BIOS everybody keeps drooling. And the only time it should happen, was when apokrif released it & made it possible for Andy's tool to handle Dell After that anybody can use the tool to make one themselves! sebus
Can someone modify the BIOS to support Pentium D's and Intel Core Duo? The hardware supports it but not the current Dell BIOS. I have a Intel Core Duo E4700 but the BIOS doesn't see it. Thank you Thanks for the mod Andrew the SX280 works just fine.
Core Duo is NOT possible due to hardware spec, it uses different voltage (you sure you did not just burn the E4700?!) All Pentium D are supported by GX620 (and work great) sebus
Never mind. I put 32bit pro on in. I have already updated to A11 but didnt have a chance to flash the modded bios in XP before the old HD died. Any tips?
Issue with SLIC 2.1 bios for dell gx520/gx620 Ok I flashed this to a GX520, slic tool kit 3.2 says that QA09 version has been invalidated. Win 7 won't activate. I did a RW of the file and copied it via SLIC toolkit. www sendspace com/filegroup/DIMrXu8UE3pv2fiIvLIHTiyOIsx57aDI has the original bios I used to flash, a slic tool kit copy, and the readwrite result.
I tried also a GX620 bios but it gave me similar problem. Used the new tool and had same issue.. Is new tool breaking something that old tool didn;t?
Tried with the newest tool. I used the SLIC with QA03 and also the DELL PE_SC3 2.2 SLIC but neither worked. What am I over looking?
