Hi, i have a Thinkpad L520 7859-43G with 500GB Seagate 7200.4 HDD. The HDD got some badsectors so i bought new HDD to replace old one. I bought Seagate 500GB Momentus Thin 5400. New drive is not recognized by BIOS, however i can see the drive from cd-live linux. So i thought maybe something wrong with hdd. I borrowed a 750GB 7200 WD Black, same thing, bios wont recognize hdd. So i borrowed a 250GB WD Blue. Same thing. The only drive that this laptop detect is original one. I tried modded bios from this site (Lenovo ThinkPad L420_1.23-(8GUJ17us)_Lenovo21_WL.rar) but no changes. Is there any other way to mod this bios to see other HDDs aswell?

Is this problem bios related? Thanks.

if linux sees it then bios is handing it over to Operating system.

are u trying to install XP ? needs sata driver for chipset of motherboard.

TL;DR: my L520 wont see in bios any other hdd than original ;-)

I am sure its 100% hardware related problem, im trying to install Windows 7 from recovery disks. When i put in new hdd, computer on boot screen "thinks" very long and then eventually boot from recovery CD but recovery software itself cant detect hdd. When i put in old hdd everything works fine. When i press f12 to choose boot device, new hdd is not listed. Old hdd is listed when I press f12. When i put new hdd and enter bios and go to startup devices there is no hdd listed, only CD, lan etc. Looks like bios problem to me. Anyway what i am asking is: is lenovo blacklisting hdd's too?

P.S. when i put in new hdd, Seagate or WD, time to enter the bios is like 30-40 second from pressing F1.
