    Hi All,

This started popping up in the lower RH corner of my desktop (on reboots) about a month ago. I can right-click on my computer, select properties, and it goes away. Why would this just start happening and what's the "forever" cure?

    Thanks!

    Russ

Malwarebytes won't let me run it (or even check the checksum). I know I can make an exception, and may do that, but what causes this after years of being good? I can see it happening once after a hardware change, but every frickin' time?

Depends on what was initially used to activate the install.

Man, I'm old and I've slept a few times since then. Seems like I used the DAZ loader with my legit key as I moved my install to a new laptop. Another thing was (years ago) I did the online upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate. I expected there'd be a place to input the upgrade cost but there wasn't, it went through w/o any fees. My thought at the time was MS quit charging for Win7 upgrades since 10 had been out for awhile...

You've used DAZ loader with your own legit key, how would that work?

Anytime upgrade never cost anything, if daz loader is used or when a valid slic for 7 is available, you can simply use the keys from the keys.ini inside the loader project folder.

Sorry, ABR, my bad! Told you I'd slept since then. I believe you install Windows, complete the registration, backup your key files with it, then reapply the keys whenever you move the install to a different machine.

When using tools like daz loader, you don't need to go thru all that hassle of backing up keys, etcetc... Just re-apply the loader on the new install.

It will work, and you'll end up activated in retail or oem:nonslp channel depending on the type of "legit" key you used. It is a silly way of installing your own legit key, since the boot loader slic emulation code will install at the same time, but not really be needed if you used a legit retail key.

That's what was implied by my post.

Well, even using the Daz loader, the message keeps coming back. Seems like I can clear it (simply right-clicking on my computer and selecting properties does it) and it comes back overnight. I wonder if there's something in my task scheduler that keeps "calling home" over an interval? Checking it now...

This is not the proper place to discuss Windows Loader problems.

You possibly just need online validation to make the watermark go away. The best place to start is to post an mgadiag report in the Windows Loader Support section. That mgadiag report will detect system file tampering, and provide info on whether the loader has installed properly.

Also read the common questions and answers section in the Windows Loader subforum.
