Toshiba Satellite P25-5263 switching off

    Hi there
    My Tosh fires up fine, runs for a while and then simply switches itself off. No warning messages, no pings, nothing.
    It wont fire up again for a while and then it's fine .. until the next time.
    Any suggestions pls?
    Am running XP home.

    A few details may help

    The first thing that comes to mind, especially if one takes your post literally . . .

    is overheating. Shuts off then won't fire up for a while suggests it has to cool off before firing up again???

    Is this a new machine; used for some time and issue is recent; changes in software; changes in hardware (added RAM, USB devices).

    I would agree it is overheating. It is probably the cpu heatsink/fan is all stuffed up with dust and just needs cleaned out. If you are lucky, you might be able to blow all that nasty stuff out with a bottle of canned air. If you aren't lucky you may have to dissemble the laptop to get the dust out.
