    Hi there,

I have this Satellite Pro L350-175 here and while checking for a BIOS update, I realized, it already has the latest 2.20.

But in an earlier update it mentions "computrace" OPTROM. But there is nothing in the BIOS mentioning Computrace. So, is this just triggered from the OS, probably beeing already enabled ?

As most toshiba sites are currently not available, Id like to know if there is at least a software to check for computrace or if there is a chance for a BIOS mod, without computrace. Its an Insyde H2o BIOS. ;O

    version 2.2 self extracting exe:

    FD file only :

I tried Insydeco for DOS and Insyde Extractor, but they wont recognize the format.

Only "EzH2O 2.1.0.13" seems to load it and I can at least look at all the graphics...but "Setup Menu" for example hands out an error...

This Laptop is already very picky when flashign the same BIOS again, by disabling the Platform Check int the file "platform.cfg"

    [BIOS Verison Check]
    flag=1 (set it to 0)

I had Windows 7 and 10 installed (dualboot), but both would now start with bad errors (IRQ not less or equal) and only woudl fullly boot in "safe mode".

So I googled around and found that Crisis Recovery is told to be not working on 9 out of 10 L350 (Fn+Esc)
and a new BIOS eeprom needs to be soldered to the board then...

Reinstalling Windows 7 now...having exchanged the LOGO files...Im no longer sure I shoudl flash it... -_-

Most of the Toshiba's I've reflashed using the crisis method uses FN+F to initialize the internal flashing mode. I think the bios file is called bios.wph or bios.fd that is used for 'recovery mode'.

Sometimes it needs a usb floppy disk unit (on older L300D models it did), or a USB stick formatted to FAT16. Desoldering and resoldering a bios chip is risky as it is so easy to damage the tiny pads on the board. I know had to scrap two boards trying!

Regarding the CompuTrace rom, i not think it becomes active unless a module is on the mainboard, if it missing the bios not show the menu for it.

Thanks for the "FN+F", in case Im going to need it. :)

Regarding Computrace Ill try the RPC finder : (I dont remember if it ould be activated permantly from within windows)
and I dont know if a chip is installed....but the optrom is there.

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/computrace-lojack-checker/

Added 16 color PCX files to the FD file using EzH2O 21013...but already seeing how picky this laptop is...is there a rule, what to exactly take care of on the PCX or JPG file ?
dpi ? Color depth ? etc.

Not sure on the color map it uses, but you are right Toshiba's are one of the most fussy brands with bios files!

Sony can be another the older VGZ ones was a :censored: killed a grands worth of laptop updating the bios through the viao updater! (it got the wrong version - and that was Sony's own damn tool!)

On all the Tosh's ive repaired i have only seen one with the Computrace module fitted, it looks like the modem board (very similar to the Wifi card). You can tell which it is as no wire connectors are on it unlike the modem/wifi cards.

Hmm okay thank you. I guess I got to try then, hehe.

    update:
Flashing various PCX graphics works like a charme and it seems only dual boot has problems.
Windows 7 starts without problems after each flash.

    p.s.
Still looking for hidden menus and CompuTrace ;)
