Most of the Toshiba's I've reflashed using the crisis method uses FN+F to initialize the internal flashing mode. I think the bios file is called bios.wph or bios.fd that is used for 'recovery mode'.

Sometimes it needs a usb floppy disk unit (on older L300D models it did), or a USB stick formatted to FAT16. Desoldering and resoldering a bios chip is risky as it is so easy to damage the tiny pads on the board. I know had to scrap two boards trying!

Regarding the CompuTrace rom, i not think it becomes active unless a module is on the mainboard, if it missing the bios not show the menu for it.

Not sure on the color map it uses, but you are right Toshiba's are one of the most fussy brands with bios files!

Sony can be another the older VGZ ones was a :censored: killed a grands worth of laptop updating the bios through the viao updater! (it got the wrong version - and that was Sony's own damn tool!)

On all the Tosh's ive repaired i have only seen one with the Computrace module fitted, it looks like the modem board (very similar to the Wifi card). You can tell which it is as no wire connectors are on it unlike the modem/wifi cards.

Hmm okay thank you. I guess I got to try then, hehe.

    update:
Flashing various PCX graphics works like a charme and it seems only dual boot has problems.
Windows 7 starts without problems after each flash.

    p.s.
Still looking for hidden menus and CompuTrace ;)
