    Two Servers same name??? WS2012E

I currently have a WHS 2011 setup for all my media and as a central storage device and of course backups. I'm currently in the process of setting up a WS2012E to replace the WHS but want to keep it the same name. Any way to separate both servers from each other yet still be able to RDP to them for my PC?

Yes its a different box, I will be retiring the WHS box for WS2012E one. I wanted to keep the server name the same (both named as SERVER1) and have them both online at the same time.

I don't need them to talk to each other and only require RDP access to the new one, once I have migrated all my data WHS will be retired. I need to keep the same name as to avoid confusion and not having to reconfigure few of my PC's that require the name to be the same.

Just to closes this thread. When I was configuring WS2012E it would not let me use the same name since that name already existed on the network, at which point I disconnected the network cable so I can keep the name the same and then plugged it back it.

I did have some network issues with the client PC's not knowing were to go, but using the server IP address it solved that problem. The WHS box has been retired, and WS2012E is now the active server.

Suggestion when posting a thread that is pointed at a specific OS include the name of the OS in the title so the next person searching with questions about it will find them easier .. Glad your up and running :)
