Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H Rev 1 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ Bios:F3A 2 GB Ram Radeon HD2100 Integrated Graphics Downloaded Windows 8.1 Pro using Windows ISO Downloader that I got from MDL. Made Bootable USB using Rufus. When I boot my PC I get the windows logo. That is as far as it goes. I can Run setup exe on the ISO from inside Windows 7 and install 8.1 that way but I cannot clean Install. I can clean Install Windows 7 from the USB. The USB with 8.1 works on my Laptop Thank for any suggestions.
Of course not, if you do not boot from USB. You must open the BIOS menu after clicking the Start button and select Start/Boot from USB. Since you have not told which computer it is, can not even tell you how to open the menu. However, it can be said that most of the newer computers must press the F12, in older pc's this may be the ESC, F1, F2, F6, Delete etc. But some may be still be different. You need to know this before you starting installation. It has an infinite number of times already spoken, but seems - still new.
This is a homebuilt PC from 2008/2009. I can clean install Windows 7 from the USB. This means I made the change in the BIOS. When I try to clean install Windows 8.1 I get the Windows logo. This means the PC starts to read the USB but it will not go past the windows logo. I have no problem upgrading Windows 7 to 8.1.
Does this mean that the installation does not start? Or can You tell a bit more. Maybe something that would explain what was happening, because all of your existing information is only the fact that the Windows logo and thats all. But what a logo and what goes on, how then all process continues? Is this a Windows 7 logo or the logo for Windows 8? I have installed many times several Windows versions and any Linux, haven't never meet such a strange situation.
I would ditch Rufus and use command prompt, Diskpart to format the USB drive. Run command prompt as admin. Then type the following Diskpart Select disk ( making 100% sure to select your USB drive ) Clean Create partition primary Select partition 1 Active Format quick fs=fat32 Assign Exit Exit This will format the drive allowing for USB booting. Take your downloaded .iso image and excract the files and copy them to the USB drive. Boot from the USB and install. This is the method I have used for years. If this does not work I would advise to download a new image and try again.
Is this a Windows 7 logo or the logo for Windows 8? Why would i get a Windows 7 logo when i try to boot Windows 8.1 If you do not know what the windows 8.1 logo looks like turn on your PC and you will see it. Installation does NOT start. When you boot Windows 8.1 you get the logo then something like loading files. My PC does not get past the Windows 8.1 logo
Rufus is not the problem. The USB works on my Laptop. If i use the USB to create a Win 7 ISO for a clean install it works. When I use the same USB to create a win 8.1 ISO for a clean install it does NOT work. I have tried about 8 different ISO's I cannot clean install windows 8.1 on my Desktop.
Yes but some boards needs to set F12/F11 keystrokes within BIOS/UEFI to make use of/enable in the first place.
Let me try to make this very simple. Like I said in my first post. This is a home built PC. I built this myself. I still have the original Manual. I know how to set the BIOS. 1) I WIPE THE DRIVE AND INSTALL WINDOWS 7 FROM USB. NO PROBLEMS. DONE. 2) I UPGRADE WINDOWS 7 TO WINDOWS 8.1. NO PROBLEMS. DONE 3) I WIPE THE DRIVE AND TRY TO INSTALL WINDOWS 8.1 FROM USB. WILL NOT INSTALL. I GET THE WINDOWS 8.1 LOGO WHICH MEANS THE PC IS READING THE USB. IT WILL NOT GO PAST THE WINDOWS LOGO. 4) THIS USB WORKS WITH WINDOWS 7 ON MY DESKTOP AND LAPTOP. 5) THIS USB WORKS WITH WINDOWS 8.1 ON MY LAPTOP. 6) I TRIED 4 DIFFERENT USB DRIVES IN ALL 6 USB PORTS.
@tnx: my AMD falls in that bracket. Windows 8.1 works on my desktop if i upgrade from Windows 7. I cannot clean install Windows 8.1. I do not like Intel. I have owned 1 Intel PC. That was a 286. I have NEVER owned another Intel PC since then.
@LatinMcG: I use my Gigabyte Vista chipset driver for my Graphics driver to get my 1600 x 900 resolution on my monitor. I have Radeon 2100 integrated graphics. Microsoft Basic Graphics Driver does not support that. Installation does not go far enough for drivers to matter.
I m going to try something new. I am downloading Windows 8.1 with Update 4065090. I remembered I used to have a Windows 8.1 ISO that did work (long since lost). At my age my memory is not what it used to be. My download speed is very slow. I will update this post tomorrow.
Finally finished Downloading en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_4065090 from murphy78. I used Rufus to create ISO on the same USB drive. Installation started so this ISO works. Windows 8.1 update 3 will not install. Something on the newer ISO prevents Installation on my desktop. THANK YOU TO MURPHY78 FOR THE ISO
