Hi people, first post here! I would prefer to post good news but I'm having trouble updating to Windows 10, so I need you help. I've tried with the windows update application, but also with a downloaded iso without luck. The thing is that when it is in the process of copying files, around 25% of the total (~60% of copy files phase) it reboots and then rolls back to win8.1. I'm desperate, I've tried disconnecting every peripheral (even the kb and mouse) and hard drive and also disabling a lot of startup stuff and windows defender etc. but always get the same result. Drivers are up to date and I have more than 30gb of free disk space. My system is Windows 8.1 Pro on a Samsung 840 evo 120gb ssd with 8gb of ram and an AMD FX 8320. The error I get get it boots back to 8.1 is: 0x80070002 - 0x2000A: Installation error in SAFE_OS phase with an error during the PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT operation. Is there a log I can take a look at?
can you please show me list of your partitions details please use diskpart or mini tools partition wizard
Ok, I see I also have all my user profile in another hard drive and can't move back (it won't fit!). So I'll try making a temporal user and launch the upgrade from there. lobo11 I already did a disk scan, everything was okay.
Ok, I got Windows 10 Pro installed. I had to make another temporal user account and delete the symbolic link to my profile folder, then launch the upgrade and everything went fine. The only problem now is that my profile is not linked to my Hotmail account as it was before and it seems I can't link it 'cause it keeps loading the screen in the Configuration window forever. I've also notified some "metro" apps are not working or crashing at launch, and there also is a crash in Cortana showing in Windows events repeatedly.
Do clean install and use your MSA to login. If you have important files on the system, please, save them to external drive before proceeding with the Windows 10 setup.
No problem, I finally have made a new account, copied back important config data from win8.1 profile appdata and linked docs, music, etc. folders to the corresponding locations. Everything is working fine now, thank you.
Hi again. Now that I have everything working fine there is still one thing that annoys me. I have to use the system with signature verification off because of a driver and because of that there is a notation on the bottom right of the screen that says: "Test mode \n Windows 10 Pro \n Build 10586". Is there a way to remove it?
