I have Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 board here.
It uses G965 Express Chipset with ICH8.

The most time consuming part of the boot process is the drive detection of the Intel SATA Controller, AHCI BIOS version 1.07 08042006.

Is there a faster firmware available for ICH8 which could be modded into my Award BIOS?

    thank you.

    Hi Nick,

there is no fast boot option in the BIOS afaik.

more precisely, the AHCI BIOS is the problem. If I disable AHCI of the controller, it boots up much faster.

Oh, I think you misunderstood my question - sorry.

I am not talking about the drive detection by Windows, but about the drives being detected BEFORE the operating system starts to boot.

I think that's the Gigabyte Sata II controller. If you want faster bootup at bios I think you should disable this controller & just use the Intel ICH8 only.

No, it is the ICH8 SATA Controller. (e.g. "Copyright Intel Corporation" :) )
