Thanks for your reply Enthousiast, I remember reading somewhere saying that the retails keys are eligible to be transferred to a complete new system, compared to OEMs keys. Or is that only for the wins8.1 key itself not the free upgrade to win10 which is time limited till 29th July?
I just know what i've tested and read from others, i hope someone with more knowledge of this will answer (DAZ, abbodi1406 or someone else) this.
So yea, if they key would be bound to the hardware with HWID then it won't make a lot sense to "upgrade" my win8.1 retail key. But if I can upgrade the key and keep my current "digital entitlement" then it will make sense to do it as I can simply transfer it to a new system.
Is there anywhere that Microsoft Clearly States that You will or won't lose transfer rights when upgrading a Retail copy Everything I find says something different, since it's posted by "Contributors" and the like Or if someone who's upgraded a Retail copy can tell Me what the Channel shows when they run a /dlv If it shows Retail Channel and it's tied to a M$ Account it seems a spare HDD with the OS could be installed in a different PC and reactivated using the Activation Troubleshooter
I remember an 8.1 laptop (with valid oemm Win 8.x/10 only) i've upgraded to 10 Home and it showed "activated by a digital entitlement", I didn't have the time to do a re-install from boot to see if it got activated by the oemm bioskey or with the DE. I only once had someone with a storebought retail key and it was before 10 came out. Mostly they bought a systembuilder oem dvd and those aren't transferable. But, with the new linking HWID to MSA option maybe that can be used by the OP to save his "8 retail key to 10" activation?
afaik: retail key/ student key = transferable OEM preinstalled key / OEM dvd = not transferable. Correct me if I am wrong here, can someone verify?
HELP Bat Confused Oh Shut Up Bat knows He's always confused. Sometime I just don't think, other times the OCD makes Me think too much Anyway, I'd Never bothered to check what channel the Free Win 10 Pro upgraded from Dazzed Win 7 Ultimate was on So running slmgr /dlv shows the OS is RETAIL So.....does that mean after the AE upgrade, signed in with a M$ account We'll be able to transfer the OS from the PC to another PC and easily re-activate Has Microsoft really become that Generous or is Bat missing something
Haha, I was wondering the same, I've never used Daz but I have a few that say Retail as well, I guess time will tell. It might be a nice perk.
So back to my original question: Will my win10 pro still be activated after activating and uninstalling my 8.1 pro key?
wow that reply was fast lobo11, So i dont need to backup my current "digital entitlement"? That sounds easy....
Well on same computer it should work or is supposed too, but yours says retail so you're, in other words, wondering if by some lucky break you can put it on another device, I say you can try, but get ready to drop the soap It's hard for me to think MSA and HWID both mess up, of course try it, see they have a section at MS called Bat.1 activations, so they kinda keep tabs on you, in other words, they're playing with you, leading you on, so you will take up your time, when the rule is free on same device, either they're playing with you, their activator troubleshooter is still in beta testing (You can believe they will have it fixed by launch), they're incompetent, they don't read these threads, I hope it works, really, but, (you knew there would be one), but, unless there is a major malfunction, I would say no, I don't think you can put it on another device, remember also that the activation troubleshooter is not the same one that comes with Anniversary Update.
One, it's not call DE any more, now=digital licence and no you don't need to backup, your activations are stored on MS Servers and will be there when you need it.
