What's the error (message)? ...to what version are you trying to upgrade (8 - 8.1 - 8.1 w Update) ?

Boot into your windows 7. Insert win8.0 dvd or iso. Run setup.exe
If you want to upgrade to 8.1, you need to go through 8.0 first or you will not successfully keep your programs and settings.

Make sure to allow the setup program to have access to internet and let it download updates.
This is important. If you don't allow it to download updates, there's a high probability that you will corrupt your installation.

Thanks for the reminder Murph.. Personally I never upgraded from 7 to 8, always do/did clean installs. Good thing I kept my 8.0 iso's. :)
