    Hello,

can I upgrade Win 8.1 Core OEM to 8.1 Pro?
I bought a new laptop with preinstalled Win 8.1 Core and updated it to Update 1.
Can I upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro Update 1 without losing data, programs, drivers etc.?
What do I need? I have
    Windows 8.1 Professional VL w. Update.x64.German.MSDN.4050427
but I guess this is not the right one.

    Thx

Better back up the old system, just in case and gather the key from BIOS :g:.

    How do I do this?

@EFA11: Uninstalling preinstalled McAfee was the first I did. ;)

Edit: Ok, google helps. Thank you!

You can obtain the OEM key anytime with the OEM:DM program.

OK, seems to be complicated enough.
    1) I found a tool called Windows 8 Product Key Viewer.
    2) I have a paper card that came with the laptop with a windows sticker and a product key on it. Is this key not enough? It's not the same key shown by the above tool though.

Edit: I checked the Key of the above tool and it is the same than the one from RWeverything. So it should be correct. What I don't understand is what the key on the paper card is for.

Seems to be similiar to the key printed on the COA sticker for Win 7 OEM systems. The system still used a generic OEM:SLP key, which is different.

That key can be used in a worst case scenario (i.e. replacing the motherboard) to activate the system via phone :g:.
