Hi guys, Ive seen this thread: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/64770-How-to-upgrade-from-W7-8-1-without-going-through-the-complete-upgrade-process It mentions doing a fresh install. Silly question, but does this mean I cannot upgrade from Win7? I have to do a complete fresh install of windows 10 and reinstall all of my programs?
You can upgrade of course if you want to keep all the programs already installed. A fresh installation will not you should know that.
Upgrading will as said, UPGRADE. This will keep your files and other sh*t. Clean install will as said, remove all files, settings and other sh*t. If I was upgrading from windows 7, I would first backup my files and then do a fresh install as it will remove the clutter of leftovers from windows 7. Im sure @cole can explain more. Best, Bjørn
If you need to upgrade. Just do it. The procedure is good just for people who don't have a Win7 to upgrade and want to activate a win 10 already installed. Or for people living still in 1995 that consider the word upgrade as an insult
ah ok, it mentions doing a fresh install - so its meant in the way of "you can do a fresh install now if you want" rather than "you absolutely must do a fresh install" So I can upgrade no issues without the upgrade ticket, but if I want to do a fresh install I can use the upgrade ticket for that? Does this change anything if someone has used Daz's loader on an OEM windows 7?
You might want to consider downloading and using the Media Creation Tool; I've had better success using it. Once you've upgraded you system, create the installation media of your choice. If you ever do need to do a clean install of Windows 10, on that machine, you won't have to worry about activation. Activation for Windows 10 is based on a Hardware ID ... HWID. It's also a good idea to verify your machine is capable of accepting the upgrade. Some machines have the required specs but lack the necessary CPU features , some makers are not supplying Windows 10 drivers and etc.
Yes. But fresh install is not the main purpose of that thread. To say better that was the initial purpose. But turned out that you can activate officially a win 10 already installed w/o having to start from 7 and then upgrade it. That is really great. People who start with a blank disk has practically nothing to gain. Still two installation to do
