Hey, I've been reading in the Windows 10 forums for quite some time now. As the time limit for the free upgrade approaches, I wanted to upgrade my MSI laptop which has Windows 8.1 OEM installed. Unfortunately that only entitles me to a Windows 10 Home installation. What would be the upgrade path to end up with a Windows 10 Pro installation preferrably without having to reinstall? Upgrade 8.1 Pro, activate it with Daz or similar? My fallback solution would be to clean install 7 Ultimate and go on from there. Thank you!
Hey, thanks for your answers. @endbase Nope, I don't have a Windows 7 serial. @Flipp3r My BIOS has MSI_NBMEGABOOK V2.1 SLIC. That would mean a clean install, wouldn't it? That'd be my last resort. Can't I modify the BIOS to an 8.1 Pro SLIC, reactivate it with my current Windows using a "found" key and upgrade to 10?
Win 8.1 upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro. Activation Win 8.1 Pro with "Windows 8.1 permanent activation". Upgrade Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10 pro with digital entitlement.
"Windows 8.1 permanent activation"? Could you explain? I've just upgraded to 8.1 Pro using an upgrade key and now am activated using MTK. Is this the way to go?
I've just used the permanent activation thing. Seems like it does some KMS stuff. Will report back when the upgrade to Windows 10 is done. Thanks so far!
It'll function really well for M$ to issue a DMCA Notice to MDL. Is it "Legit" ? NOT While the use of "Leaked" "Found" or "Generated" Keys works to give a Digital License, I'd strongly advise against doing it that way. M$ may never check activation records, but what if they ever decide to do it
Bat.1: win 8(.1) pro vl -> win 8(.1) free prowmc retail ... working until now win 8.1 prowmc retail (pro vl) -> win 10 pro digital entitlement ... working until now Microsoft no cancel digital entitlement or activation.
Send Me that same message 2-3 Years from now and I'll be glad to admit that Microsoft cares more about getting everyone on Win 10 than how they got there. I've never lost activation except with TWO NEW HP Desktops that lost it with KB971003 But ask anyone who purchased what they "Thought" was a Legit Key and then I just Don't like seeing that Facebook link posted, but If The Mods think it's OK then it's none of Bat's business
The process worked. Upgraded to 8.1 Pro using a "found" key, activated using the permanent activation thing, then upgraded to Windows 10 Pro - reporting as legit. Thank you very much (and the guy from the ns**ed*wn forum, who pointed me to the correct key to use.
Did a Fresh install today on the PC I had tested the "Windows 10 Permanent Activator" on and it reactivated without any problems. So We're going on the hope that M$ is more interested in getting people running Win 10 than what activation method they used to get there
