So, my situation is a bit weird...

My laptop, an HP EliteBook 8530W, came with Windows 7 (Pro OA). My employer has purchased licenses for the employees, and we could do a BYOB style install (I use my personal laptop for work too), thus, I got a legal 8.1 on it, activated through a local KMS.

And right now I'm running build 10135, upgraded from 10130, upgraded from the mentioned Win81 install.

My question is - how can I solve the Win10 activation for my Win7Pro key? I'd prefer not to reinstall 7 or 8.1

Yeah, you either need Win7 or Win8.1 non-enterprise version. I have also heard that you should be able to upgrade form the Win10 test versions to the full versions for free, but they never did that in the past, so I'm not sure.

for what i been reading insiders cant upgrade like that....they have to go back to a valid win 7 or 8 OS to pick up the upgrade.

If your employer will be providing a KMS host for win10, would you post it in a VPN or something? :D:D

MS did mention that Insiders can upgrade to the release even without rolling back to previous stable releases.

My Win8.1 is not Ent, it is Pro. KMS was just easier than buying X licenses.

To rephrase the question - how can I obtain the LICENSE for my Win10 upgrade? Why didn't MS think of Insiders?

Insiders can upgrade from Preview builds to the final version, and if they have only upgraded since Windows 7 and 8.1, then that version will also be activated.

The fact that your version is activated by KMS means its not eligible for the free upgrade. As the free upgrade is meant for Consumers not Businesses (although those using Retail/OEM Pro can get it)

If you really want to make sure you get the upgrade, Go back to Windows 7 Pro OEM, Activate your Windows 8.x with a Retail Key, or do a clean install (when the ISO's are available) using your Windows 7 Pro details.

But, you've still got a month or so to decide. ;)

Well f*ck. I was hoping MS would provide a way to activate my Win7 key from the bottom of the laptop, or through SLIC :(

They will do but it will mean a clean install not an upgrade.

Nah, pisthai, I was just joking, don't believe he would risk his job to post his employer's KMS host. :rasta:

I'd think that, that you were joking! He still like to to fool Microsoft by using pirated stuff for to get Free Windows 10 Licenses, and try to hide that behind his speech!

I truely have to say that I like people who talking openly but behind something!

It is NOT pirated... Nor KMSPico'd. I don't know the exact details as I'm not the system admin, who has set my laptop up (and I doubt my employer would risk their 50+ employees over a few freaking licenses they get cheap with MSDN any way...). However my laptop came with Win7 Pro OA, and thus, is eligible for the free Windows 10 upgrade. All I was asking if there's any way to get the upgrade activated, WITHOUT reinstalling my system.

I believe Dreamspark keys are MAK keys, if so they won't get the free update.
What OS did your system come with? as that maybe entitled to the fee upgrade.

    @fonix232,
Your asking a question that MS hasn't answered, so no one here can give an answer.

All MS has said is that those in the Insider Program will get the free upgrade. But, as we are all aware even 'Non-Genuine' versions of Windows will get the free upgrade.
Its the Activation of those systems that's in question (which includes yours)

This question is more exciting than some of the new features in Windows 10 :D
