I used the OEM Windows 7 CD key from my mom's laptop to sign up for the Windows 8 upgrade and was wondering what will happen to the Windows 7 key once I activate the Windows 8 on another computer? I'm just afraid she will no longer be able to use her laptop and if that's the case I'll just upgrade hers instead of mine.

Can anyone share your firsthand experience?

The Windows 7 key remains intact and usable. You are entitled to sign up for the Windows 8 upgrade using the details of one PC, and use the Windows 8 key on another PC instead when you receive it (Microsoft itself says so).

    Thanks!
What about if I was to reformat the Windows 7 laptop, would the old CD key still validate while the Windows 8 CD key is in use?
