Hello I am having several issues with updating (via windows updates) my current version of Windows: 10 1511-10586.545 and would like to know if I can just upgrade it with the following I downloaded from the TechBench WZT site: File: Windows10_InsiderPreview_CoreSingleLanguage_x64_en-us_14931.iso - actually the educational version. I have several 64 bit valid keys through the Dreamspark program (or whatever it's called now) via my University's site. The keys I have are for the educational multiple versions edition/single language. The site above allows you to download both the (14931) educational insider preview copy AND the (14393) educational copy (not an insider preview on this version). Can I just upgrade my current 1511 copy w/o ditching my software or do I need to do a fresh install w/o being able to keep programs. This option is okay if need be....I have 4 drives in here so I can copy anything over I needed. I am just tired of seeing this upon looking: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3192441) - FAILED TO INSTALL - Multiple times...like ~10 I can't get sfc /scannow and other troubleshooting utilities to work (DISM, etc.) so it is time. Thankfully this is just a test PC I am on. Tnx Tim
If you don't know, Insider Previews expire and will no longer boot unless you keep upgrading to a newer build.
(Yours is 1511 which is more than 6-7 months old.) You have not even mentioned what Windows edition you are currently using? Pro? Core? Education? etc. Upgrade is Core to core, Education to education and Pro to pro editions only. I would suggest to download the Education or Single Language edition because you have dreamspark keys to two of those editions. Best would be to install Education as it has features from Pro edition. Download 14393 (1607) x64 Education. Create a fresh usb installation using any USB creator utility. Back up your data/files/documents/porno from existing windows installation Fresh install the x64 Education edition and activate it with Education dreamspark key. The latest Insider preview as of today is 14951 You can upgrade to it through windows update.
