After having removed a usb-stick before it was finished, my usb 2.0 ports run at 1.1 speed. The mobo has no usb 1.1 ports, only 2.0 and 3.0. I can reinstall intel chipset drivers (ich10), and the ports run at 2.0 again. BUT: After boot, its back at 1.1 again. Device manager under usb shows: 2 entries with "Intel ich10 family usb enhanced host controller" 6 entries with "Intel ich10 family usb universal host controller" 1 entry with "Renesas Electronics usb 3.0 host controller" 1 entry with "Renesas usb 3.0 Root hub" 8 entries with "usb root hub" Have tried everything under the sun, have given up. (Tried "DriveCleanup V1.2.0" - removes non present drives from the device tree Freeware by Uwe Sieber (c) 2007-2016). Drivers used are Intel chipset (inf update) from gigabyte download for this mobo. opsys xp sp3 32 bit, mobo Ga-x58a-ud7. Booting a win 7 hdd on same pc, and no problems with usb at all ! Any fix apart from clean install ?
Uninstall all chipset drivers, use CCleaner to clean the registry of all traces, then re-install chipset drivers.
YES ! Uninstalled everything under usb in device manager Ran usb oblivion (cleaned a lot) Ran ccleaner (ver.513 free). Ran the cleaner and the registry clean (cleaned a lot) Booted. New hardare found, aborted all of them Ran the intel chipset driver setup.exe. All installed well. Booted And YES, my 2.0 capable usb-stick now runs at 2.0 speed !! Bingo !!! No nasty messages saying that "this unit can perform at faster speed" etc. etc. So SOCRATE, You are my man !! Cannot express how thankfull I am !
The strange things is, I thought in the beginning that it might be a registry problem, and ran "Advanced system Care pro" with registry cleaning. Did not help. The only thing that helped was your suggested Ccleaner !! You saved me !
