I have already checked the Power Options and the USB Hub options for power save/control, and that's not it. Blasted drive just keeps dropping off and back on, even when moving files. Not a cable issue either, as they are new cables. Any ideas? Thanks!
I've seen bad hardware do that. Try disabling the "USB 3 controller" and "Enhanced controller" only for the dock in device manager. You can get a good idea which ports those are by connecting the port and watching "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in device manager. Then you'll have usb 1.1 ports only with the dock. If that works, enable the "enhanced controller(s)" and then you'll have usb 2.0. If that works and then you enable the "USB 3 controller" and it dies, it's the usb 3 controller. If you have to live with usb 1.1 or 2.0, it's better than it not working at all and it'll get you through until you can get new hardware.
Is the usb docking station externally powered(aka has its own power adapter)? If no & you are using a 3.5" internal hdd then this issue is normal.
Then try backside ports. In my experience, these ports are better/more stable than ones on front/side cabinet panel.
Will do. Trying another docking station at the moment. Seems stable, will see if that lasts. Will also try it with another drive for stability.
Yeah, there are a few in the $30 range now - there wasn't (as i recall) a year ago when I got this unit.
