    Hi,

    I have never done this before, but I learned about it today.

    1.)
    I take "C:" (SSD) from a laptop and attach it via SATA->USB Adapter to my main PC
    There already is a folder "Tools" in root.

    2.)
    I copy files to this "Tools" folder, like firefox setup and a jpg.

    3.)
    Re-Installing the SSD in the laptop, only the jpg can be found in the "Tools" folder, butnot the firefox setup.

    I tested this with various hdds now...and there are always some files not showing up.

    What am I missing here ?

    are you actually "Copying" the files or "Moving" these files?

    I do copy them.

    Sometimes the copied files hand out a "The file is not there" on the laptop.

    Could the problem be, that there is only 1 partition "C:" which Im copying to ?

    Does the USB Adapter/"Converter" chip supports UASP ?

    @Joe C
    This gave even more errors and I needed to run chkdsk. I could then open the formerly "bugged" folders with admin rights.

    @pcnavarra
    You mean like Intels USB-3.0-eXtensible-Host-Controller support ?

    Neither the PC nor the Laptop has USB 3.0.

    Its a cheap China SATA2USB Adapter, that I havent taken apart yet to have a look inside. I dont know if it supports UASP.

    I guess I try to use a 2nd partition on that SSD, like "Z:" and try to copy files there.

    If your getting error's by only showing hidden folders, you might have something more going with your pc. If you do not have Malwarebytes then it would not hurt to download the free version, update it and run a scan of your hard drive for anything funky

    Its both freshly installed windows systems, laptop and PC NOT beeing connected to the internet.

    It happens on the SSD and 2 "normal" HDDs.

    As it does indeed feel strange, I still think its a "C:" (security) problem...but maybe it is related to one of the SATA ports ? But wouldnt windows cry loud then ?

    Both Windows 10, 1 is a official 1903 and one is a official 1709.

    I do remember having the exact same scenario with 1 folder many, many years ago, using a internal HDD from a Win7 PC, attached to a WIn 8.1 PC.
    Not all files had been copied...and/or were accesable, when re-inserting the HDD in the bootable PC.
