Hey, i'm gonna install Windows Server 2012 x64 for a friend, but before i'd like to know if he'll ba able to use it as a desktop OS, just like Windows 7 ultimate or W8 pro. Can we play games in good conditions ? Does it need some better hardware ? Thanks all.
Well... I'm not sure you'd get any benefit out of it. If you modify it to be more of a desktop OS like win8, it won't run any better than Win8. Plus, if you do that, it will likely run into a lot of situations where programs won't run just because it's Server 2012 instead of a desktop OS. There wouldn't be a LOT of programs that do that, but there would likely be a few. You might try installing Win8 (core) N x64 if you want a fast OS that's current. win8coreN is probably the fastest win8 there is. There would be an occasional program that has microsoft codec stuff and media player stuff. If you use any video editing software you might wanna use Core instead of Core N
Ok thanks you all for replying. Actually i wanted Server 2012 for easy activation (Daz's loader). Well, finally i think i'll simply install W8 pro, even if the activation process is harder... Seems there're some limits when using server as desktop, some features are not working etc. Thanks anyway
Why you think activation is harder in Windows 8 than Server2012? Just use the MTK in windows 8 and install AutoKMS and have to do the activation just once, rest is done by AutoKMS!
As long as you need an easy activation method and you specified Windows Loader by DAZ, why don't you use Windows 7! It has all what you want
I know they both work beautifully, but, maybe the Loader is simpler in the way of its use, as you don't have to fear of AV catching your Auto KMS That's all.
can you explain? Daz loader is different technology for W7. MTK is made for W8 + many other things and does nothing else than activating your os. Why prefer one more than the other? Nonsense
I would say that the time of loaders are passed by already except for Server 2012, till now! And even Daz itself told that! If you like to stay with loaders, fine, just go ahead and back in time, it's your personal choice!
I see this is absolutely wrong, no offense Just as PaulDeadmond said: So, you can't abandon MTK and replace it with Loader simply because this is used for some purposes and can't be used in others and vice versa
If you should use Server 2012 then there are some applications that are incompatible, but most can be bypassed by setting a compatibility mode or by using Orca. My suggestion for some people to use Server 2012 was made before there was a KMS tool available for Windows 8. Now that there is one then theres little reason not to use Windows 8
Lol.. Windows server 2012 works flawless for desktop. Oh yes I am sure there are SOME programs you might have a problem with yet for ME so far EVERYTHING I use have used in Windows 8 pro works perfect in 2012. Op as you can see if you ask your going to get YES vs NO so man just try it your self and go from there. See how YOU like it now how WE like it.
Hi, well i'm done now. Wasn't aware that MTK could activate W8, since last time i checked MTK it wasn't able to do so. btw thanks CODY! By 'easier' i meant no KMS process, just a permanent activation with Daz's loader. Anyway all is fine now, thank you.
MSI patcher? is there something like a MSI patcher available to make some apps compatible with the server OS? I wasn't able to install any security software like ESET, due to the fact it's not written for server.
