Hey @mdylan22, you beat me to it The ability to reformat the "major" first partition from exFat to NTFS is a feature that a lot of Windows users will like. Allow me to post the notes of this new feature below: Ventoy Disk Layout This is a 32gb USB drive's layout after Ventoy created it: Code: ============================= (1mb) => MBR + GAP ============================= (32gb - 33mb) => Part1 (exFAT/ NTFS/ UDF/ XFS/ Ext2/ Ext3/ Ext4) Main partition to hold ISO files ============================= (32mb) => Part2 (FAT) ESP (EFI System Partition) for EFI boot and to hold Ventoy files ============================= MBR partitioning is used because it is the only selection in order to support Legacy BIOS system. About Part1: By default, Ventoy selects exFAT filesystem for the main partition to hold iso files. exFAT has better compatibility on Windows/Linux/Mac and exFAT is suitable for USB stick. From Ventoy-1.0.10, you can reformat the 1st partition with other filesystem, exFAT/NTFS/UDF/XFS/Ext2/Ext3/Ext4 are supported. It should be noted that, if you choose XFS/Ext2/Ext3/Ext4, the USB will be unavaliable on Windows and can not be used to install Windows. But if you only use Linux that will be a good choice, because XFS/Ext2/Ext3/Ext4 will have better performance in Linux. About Part2: There must be an EFI System Partition with FAT filesystem and that's the mandatory requirements of UEFI specifications. So this partition is created to hold EFI boot file and other files nesscessy to Ventoy. These files are very small, so 32MB is enough. Besides, the EFI partition can be at part1 also, but I set it at part2 just because that in some version of Windows like Windows 7, only the first partition of the USB drive is visable to the system. And that's good for Ventoy's protection. This partition is very small and used by ventoy, so you better not change anything in this partition. About 1MB GAP This gap is used to hold the bootloader in Legacy BIOS system.
Brother you are always senior . i remember year 2011 you were here abbodi1406 brother & Daz brother i forgot some more brothers name of that time who was also here on our mdl community that time i joined our community mydigitallife.net but now domain suffix changed . thanks a lot to you for posting such a great tool on our community . pleasure is always mine brother
Too much praise, I'm just a dumb f... (friend?) Let's just say we'll pass on 99.9% of that onto the Ventoy developer: "LongPanda". I think it's amazing how quickly he responds to user requests etc. and implements them in new versions.
Grub2fm Latest Build 7.2 now supports screenshots (ctrl + alt + f12). it must be mapped with print screen key function to be user friendly but a great job always by Alive Brother .
How to use VENTOY on USB-HDD with Multiple Partitions, where only the first or a specified partition can be dedicated for ISO files, and rest of the partitions could be used for some other purposes...
Latest Ventoy will first format whole disk into three parts . first is hidden 1mb part (MSR) second is 32 mb hidden (EFI System) Part third part is where you can put anything like media : audio video images texts pdfs documents softwares iso wim files etc etc . Create a new ventoy directory in third part & create a new file name ventoy.json there then put the code as deacribed by op of this thread somewhere on his post . function of that json is to use unattended xml file separately . before as we all were using that autounattended xml file via editing iso & adding it to iso . so using ventoy there no any need to edit thw iso anymore as we can separately use unattend file using that ventoy json file function elements.
Thank you for the response dear, but actually I wanted to know if it's possible for ventoy to run on a USB HDD with multiple customised partition...
Yes for sure you can . Just go to disk management tool in your windows & del your partition whixh is visible to you of your usb hdd in your my computer . then create as many partitions as you can on your disk drive either hdd or ssd or flash drive .
Explain to me the sense of being able to change the theme if then the odious blue writing with "VENTOY" writing and the version is always imprinted ?!
but brother the way you asked seems like you are very angry while asking that . please dont mind i interfered in between .
OK, I was semi-kidding, just wanted to convey that LongPanda is probably willing tot consider any input, as long as we ask nicely and thank him for his excellent (and free!) software.
Did you select "run all programs from RAM" in the XPE builder? If not, I guess at some point the system might be looking for a Programs folder on the Ventoy partition. Another option would be to copy that folder from a standard XPE usb, but I prefer the first option. You can also try to run the XPE ISO after hitting F1 in the Ventoy menu, for Memdisk mode. Check out the "Documentation" section on the website.
Atari8000XL, Thanks for the reply. Yes I did read the docs and have already tried the F1 Memdisk. I was not aware of the "run all programs from RAM" in the XPE builder. I will try that next. I did notice that the XPE ISO was not mounted after booting like the usb image does. and now wonder based on your comment if it is necessary to complete the startup. It makes sense now because their is some info documented in the command file about needing to run the command file just before explore starts... Thanks again for the kind reply....
