Okay, so i have been all over the internet trying to find a proper answer. Hopefully i can, so I have a Radeon HD 6870 currently and purchased a 4k monitor. Now this card only supports 2560x1600. So If i was to plug this monitor into the displayport port, would the monitor turn on at a max resolution of 2560x1440 (16:9). Will it turn on at all? Would the monitor and the card come to some happy medium until i can purchase a better card?

It should turn on but I doubt the card will put out 4k.

Your screen will be downscaled to 2560x1600 (Max resolution of the 6870)
