Hi. I was using win 8.1 pro on my pc, youtube and twitch perfomance was fine on my old office pc(i3-4170 8gb ram ssd) cpu usage was below 10% while watching a twitch stream, now its 35-45% and switching tabs while a stream is playing or youtube vid freezes the tab for a few seconds, this is the same thing that happens on linux when there is no hardware acceleration so i am wondering if it's some issue with that, i tried multiple browsers(firefox, opera, chrome, brave) same result, i also tried to install it on my laptop and the same thing happens, 35-45% cpu usage and video freezes when switching tabs. Shouldn't windows 8.1 run better than windows 10 on older hardware? Does anyone else have the same problem? i would love to get it fixed.
Integrated on pc and dedicated on laptop, all drivers updated but the behavior is the same both on the laptop and pc, windows 10 works just fine
Then maybe the latest updates could be causing this additional lag/latency. Otherwise, maybe check ethernet/wifi drivers are updated too?
Integrated graphics does not have hardware acceleration support for new codecs like VP9 which youtube now uses for 720p/1080p 60fps videos and especially livestreams. I have i3 3rd and 5th gen laptops with same behavior which have only iGPU. VP9 decode is supported on 6th gen and newer platforms from Intel. A workaround can be to use h264ify chrome extension and enable 60fps video block as well. This doesn't always guarantee that you'll get all videos in AVC1 codec but if it's available you'll get it.
