Virtual win8 on windows 7 setup help

    Hi

    I have just been trying to install win8 on a win7 host

    I have tried VMare and Virtualbox I can install win7 using both not a problem

    Every time I try to install win8 i get this error the same on vmware and virtualbox

    The win8 image and DVD i am using is good i have installed from it before just not in a virtual machine

    Any help appreciated :confused:

    that is because your host CPU does not support NX bit.
    you can not install Win8 on that system, or run it in a VM.

    my host system will install and run that version of win8 as a host os so how come it wont run it as a virtual os

    E6550 core2 duo and 4 gb of ram

    My processor supports NX as I have had win8 running on this pc I enabled NX in Virtualbox settings and still got the same result
    The same with VMware checked all the settings same result

    Enable it in BIOS (of the physical machine)

    Thanks I didn't have to enable NX couldn't find it but found a enable virtualization option enabled that :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

    Forgive me if this sounds like a silly question as I am new to running virtual systems

    Ram allocation I presume that the same rules apply as in a normal installation win8 x64 needs 2gb minimum ?

    Yes, that is correct. You just need to have the physical Ram on your computer available.

    Sweet I have 4GB at the moment so both host and guest should work ok

    I just wouldn't recommend running more than 2 Virtual Machines unless you have more than 6 GB of RAM, just for future reference :biggrin:

    Cant see me running more than one unless I upgrade the ram a bit
