    Dear all,
after a lot of time i'm back to the forum with a question.

I purchased a used HP pavillion laptop that has Vista home premium 32bit installed with the sticker of the key in the back of it.
Is there any way to update to Windows 7 and if so, in which version?

The laptop didn't came with a DVD, every driver etc. is stored in the Recovery partition.

Is there something i can do?

    Regards

Yes sir, you can post your HP pavillon specifications, and start by downloading win7 sp1 for 32 bits from MDL, then read the stickies on how to fresh install and activate, very simple. Yo will format and use dAZZZ up your system:D

    It's the pavillion dv6-1210sv.
Shall i go with a Win 7 Home premium install or something else?
I guess it will ask me for a key during installation, will it accept my Vista key or do i have to use Daz loader?

    What is MDL?

    Regards

    Misfit,
how much RAM memory you have, if it is at least 4GB, then install win7 premium or uLtimate for 64 bits.
Most likely you have less than 4GB since you have Vista 32, if that is the case ,going with Home premium (make sure you have a version that has SP1) is fine, SKIP key during install, no prob, and NO , it wont accept vista key. Loader will be just fine.
There is also a tool SLICTOOL, run that before anything and see what slic you have.

MDL My digital life, site you are on now

    One last question:
if i want to go back to its original OS (in case i send it for warranty),
the laptop's recovery partition will bring again the Vista Home Premium formatting Windows 7, correct?

There should be an option to make recovery DVDs using some HP junk tool in Vista. Do this. You can restore from these discs if you need to send it in for warranty. This is what I did when I returned my HP laptop when the defective-by-design nVidia chipset started to blow out. Alternatively if you have to send it back you could install Vista using plain Vista install media before sending it in.

Then blow away Vista. All the junk HP preloads on your computer will ruin performance under Vista or an upgraded Windows 7. Do a clean install. I would match the bit edition to what it came with.

Might as well install Ultimate. Your vista key is useless during install of Windows 7 (regardless of edition). Decline to enter a product key and hit next. Then run Daz loader after installation.

With any luck Windows 7 will give you at least an Ethernet driver, meaning Windows update should be able to pull all remaining drivers for all devices. If not go on HP's website, look up your model, and try the packages for Vista if you have to.
