    Sorry for the newbie question,
I just don't understand how vista loaders work,
but since I have a Dell E510, It seems like I'm gonna
have to use them to activate Vista sp1.
But not knowing much, the idea of messing
    with the BIOS scares me.
So, my question is: if something goes wrong with
the loader, will a hard disk format and clean install of vista
take me back to where I am?
or do I have to do something else to restore the BIOS
    original state?

    Thanks for your help.

Loaders do not mess with your bios. Only in memory. If you use the WOW patch, you can uninstall it if you dont like it.

The loaders load a slic table into memory at an address, and adjust bios image in memory to use it. The original bios is untouched. This is as simple as I can explain it, and is most likely not complete. These are easier for the M$ people to detect and disable. The WOW seems to hold the most promise at this time...
