I hate to sound rude, but that is definitely not true. Windows Live Movie Maker is a s**t replacement; the only good thing about it is the Ribbon. It has no editing tools and no transitions... it might as well be PowerPoint '95. Plus, Windows Movie Maker 2.6 (available for download from Microsoft) is just a crude, fun-less (has no extra transitions, styles, etc) copy of the version in XP. Vista's Movie Maker not only has the Vista UI aesthetic (which is at least a little good in Windows 7), but it also uses the Windows Media framework of Windows 7, giving it all the capabilities and goodness of Windows Media Player in Windows 7.
No problem, baturkin17. Update 3/31/09 (Release 2, 8.53 MB): Just uploaded a new file. This installer is significantly smaller, since I ripped out all the DVD Maker stuff. Neither Windows 7's nor Vista's DVD Maker work directly with Movie Maker here, and Windows 7's DVD Maker flat-out ignores MSWMM files. You just have to publish your movie to a file and import that into DVD Maker.
File no longer on mediafire. I keep getting an error trying to download it. Is there someplace else i can get it?
Oh, and, in case anybody tried it, it doesn't work on 64-bit Windows 7. I look to fix this as soon as I find by 64-bit Vista DVD. The update will also include resources from the RC, although I don't think anything changed.
I came across this thread looking for a solution and you seemed to provide it except I'm running 64bit. I have a copy of Vista 64 as well, if there is any way I could help let me know. I could email you any files you need or host them on my FTP if they're too large. just pm me and let me know what you need.
If you would zip up the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder (and the x86 version, if there is one), I'll whip it right up with 7100 resources right away. EDIT: If you need it immediately, there's one near the top in this same forum. It's not built like mine, and requires some folder fiddling to get things to match up right in Windows 7. It also uses all Vista DLLS, I think, so it doesn't use whatever architecture enhancements in Windows 7 there are (pertaining to Media Player, of course).
I pm'd you the link. It was only in Program Files. Program Files (x86) didn't have a movie maker folder.
there is no movie maker x86 if your running x64 because there need for it, only the x86 version of windows vista has it, plus miss matching dll's from windows 7 dvd maker wont change or added any thing, movie maker was designed to run windows there own dll's not windows 7 updated dll's so change them really doesnt change how movie maker runs, running movie 6.0 on windows 7 it cuts out a few things , but i think with adding a few regs here and there may work.
Forget 2.6 in 7 !!! There is no capture tool in 2.6. It's crashing all the time in 7. Too bad because the windowsmoviemakersforum has great extra's :-( I wish MS made MM6 for 7. Or are there really coming up with something totally new later this year ? Besides the Live s**t thing. I switched over to Sony Vegas Studio+fam.pack. Lightweight and Easy once you get used to it. Example: split a video by hitting the spacebar. Brilliant ! There are great tutorials at YouTube. Tried Pinnacle, Corel, Magix, Adobe Elements, Edius, Avid. Couldn't get used to it.
my mistake I was too eager. This MM is based on MM6 from Vista ? Wow !!! Gonna check it out. Thanks ! Can you take out the 100 restriction ? A complete movie in MM can never be more than 100 (total of scenes, transitions, titles, music, etc). When I have more then saving as AVI is not working.
broken link again hey, just so you know, your link is broken again. I just clicked it and Media Fire says it doesn't exist. i hope u update it soon cuz I want thins, the 2.6 version on MM is complete crap. updated as of 12/7/2009
