Hello, I like to now if it is possible to install VMware on Windows 2003 R2 or 2008 R2 to run a Game server like Minecraft? I assume you can assing memory to vmware for the gameserver run smoother? Any information is welcome Regards, Vaako
Hi, Why do you prefer Linux? i'm not familair with Linux and there are so many distro's to choose from.
Ba cause I can? This tutorial for how to set up a Minecraft server on Linux was designed for people who don't have a lot of experience with Linux. You fit the bill here... chose any
The reason that I would run the game server in vmware is because my son can run his gameserver virtual and does not mess with the main OS and leave it alone
Do you mean: 1. run a Windows OS and run an Linux as VM 2. run a Linux OS and run a Windows as VM 3. run a Linux OS and run also a Linux VM If it's option number 3, can you advice any distro that you prefer running VM on?
I do not know what your main OS is (and I do not care, I sure will not try to convince you to change it, why should I? it is your preference) Run any virtualization software you like on it (vbox, vmware workstation, parallels, fusion etc) For the very project run Minecraft server on a Linux VM Chose whatever Linux you want, the link specifies few You might even learn something in a process, which is always a bonus! sebus
I did not hear before from Vbox, workstation, parallels, fusion etc... Thanks to sebus mention all these virtualization softwares! The game server I have to run is a Modded Minecraft server "Feed the Beast" called "MindCrack Pack" wich is not available for Linux so I have to go with the Windows version of it: h**p://feed-the-beast.com/download.php I'm thinking to run a Windows 2000 in a virtual machine to put this game server on sinds it reqiures not much. My main OS is Windows 2008 SP2.
