vmware player 4.0.2--choppy sound in vm, on XP host, not on 7 host

    so i've got a weird problem...

    when running XP inside of VMware Player on an XP host the sound is slow, choppy, and has an echo.

    when running XP on a Windows 7 host on the same PC the sound is fine.

    Vista and 7 running on an XP host sound just as they should.

    just XP on and XP host the sound is horrible...

    what could be the problem???
