Do you really have a special need for this or why do you want to do such a thing? Most people are trying to get rid of such a partition on their computer, and in real life you can use it very rarely, if at all ever. And usually there is really no need for it at all and never. And besides, you generally can't do a recovery with it if you're using a VM.
If you have or know someone that has the coding skills, then yes they can be bypassed (cracked) There were a coupe of guys cracking them on the Internet Archive, but they were mostly Compaq and IBM images. Do you need this actual image? Or will any Sony image do? You could try searching for Sony image that has been cracked already.
To support a emulated installation with provided rescue image: not that i know of. Again, if you modify image it would be possible. Not that I know how to do it. If rescue image get's wrong return values, yes, it will fail. I would be very happy if you prove me wrong, if you can provide some valid links, that would be appreciated. Kind regards
Thank you for the links. None of them however explains how to install the image you posted. The last 3 are pre-maid VMware I did however noticed remarks from link no. 1 - windows_7_vaio (closest to your Vista image) Spoiler === VMware === 1. Download BIOS.440_VAIO.NEW.ROM (included with the archive.org post) 2. Find and open your virtual machine .VMX file with a text editor. It should be in your virtual machine directory. 3. Paste the following at the end: bios440.filename = "BIOS.440_VAIO.NEW.ROM" 4. Save and start your VM. === VirtualBox === 1. Start a Command Prompt window as Administrator. 2. Find your VirtualBox install directory and navigate to it in the Command Prompt using `cd`. 3. Enter these commands. Replace vmname with the name of your virtual machine. VBoxManage.exe setextradata "vmname" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcbios/0/Config/DmiSystemVendor" "Sony Corporation" VBoxManage.exe setextradata "vmname" "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcbios/0/Config/DmiSystemProduct" "VPCYB2M1E_S" 4. Start your VM. ?
@ccypruss000 I just tried for fun the rom file, didn't work but, yeah, if that rom file was modified for your image that could work...
@ccypruss000 I presume you're planning to perform a trial run before restoring your Sony VAIO VGC-LM1E, right? Now think it like the following: Isn't it better to opt for Windows 7 (or even 10, provided you are willing to bump the RAM and replace the aging mechanical HDD with a SATA SSD) and do a clean install instead of opting for Sony's bloatware-riddled ancient Vista instance? Since this PC came with Vista Home Premium, you can even install the Ultimate SKU of Vista and activate it via OEM:SLP method without any issue, although you need to jump through a lot of hoops to get to make it a proper daily driver.
@Tito I think , and if i'm wrong you are both free too shoot me - @ccypruss000 collect, archive and share images rather than restoring some computer. I can see the purpose of testing a image (restore/rescue) in a emulated/virtualized environment, just to see if it works. If possible. Of course - If that image/s is clean copy/s I would love to see them unharmed rather than modified.
Good evening, I would like to run it first in vmware to see if it actually works fine without any issue with the passage of time, although I still have the 3 recovery disks, I would like to see them in vmware as well out of curiosity to see if they actually work. Of course I will encounter error messages but I believe I can work around them I would like it factory like the machine was bought then in 2007.
Give it up is my honest suggestion (after "more than a few" try-outs) Those retarded uploaders at archive.org can't even upload a good/valid image. Even less provide some instructions. And to provide a good/valid checksum of whatever is uploaded??? Totally unheard of!!! "It works with this and that" and that should be reliable information enough... Sorry I couldn't help.
