Hello all, Maybe I'm dumb. But I used the Dell mod rom files and replaced them in my VMWare workstation Pro folder. Method 2. I have a windows 10 VM but it still shows the VMWare bios. I also edited the vmx to reflect host bios. I also tried adding the efi.file name and putting the file in the vm folder. Same result. Please tell me what I over looked when I was RTFM? Regards, DS.
The download links in the OP are not working on my side, it always presents me the following message: Code: { "status": "error", "message": "File not found" } Anyone has any mirrors?
So can I follow the steps you outlined in this (https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/vmware-workstation-slp-slic-bios-efi-mod.64693/page-7) post if I have a toshiba Insyde bios and Windows 7? Edit: Looks like I can except I can’t seem to do it without a RWeverything file despite the Phoenixtool.ini file (a renamed empty text file).
Is there any advantage or disadvantage to not using a RWeverything report? As in my post above, I can’t seem to do it without one despite the ini trick so curious if I can fix that or if I should just use one?
@Evan N That guide was made with the VMware BIOS in mind. I'm not sure it'll work for your Toshiba, and if you go ahead I'd recommend using a RW Report. Also, it can be risky modding a 'real' BIOS. Why don't you request a BIOS Mod from the BIOS Mod subforum?
Sorry that comment was when I had less understanding of how this worked. I get it now. I am using the VMware bios and the SLIC from the Toshiba bios (which is what I was referring to in that question, the ability to pull the SLIC). I have all of that done. Should the RW Report match/be run on the host hardware (that is the only issue I am having (not being able to do it without one))?
You should be able to create the empty PhoenixTool.ini (it's not PhoenixTool.txt). Place it in the same directory as PhoenixTool.exe.
I did. What I did to do that was create an empty txt file, name it, and change the extension. If I was going to use RWeverything (not quite sure the purpose) would I run it from inside the VM or from the host OS?
Ok. Thanks! Would I have to create a new report and new rom when I move the vm to a new host machine? Also, just curious, would all of this transfer over to and work on Fusion? Edit: Worked without a report when I recreated the ini!
If your VM is compatible with the new host machine it wouldn't be necessary to create a new rom. Not sure about Fusion. Were you successful creating the mod? I can make up a mod for you if you tell me the SLIC you want to use.
Ok. Thanks! I got the file together. Just getting ready to test it now, will reach out if I need help. Thanks for everything! Edit: It worked! Thanks!
Also found a way to do it on Fusion (https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/guide-for-vmware-fusion-2-slic-hack-macos.3376/). Haven't tested so can't confirm.
