    Hello all,

My apologies if this has been asked and answered before...

Going to work on a friends machine who hasn't upgraded to W10. The machine had an activated, non-cracked W7 install, but now needs a wipe and reformat.

I read somewhere that if they wanted to upgrade to W10, I could just start installing it (instead of going through and reinstalling W7 to upgrade) and it would activate if I entered the valid W7 key.

    Is that true?

    Thanks in advance......

Not gonna work that way. Here what you need to do, If you have Windows 7 Key already, reload Windows 7 first included meet your hardware driver weather is 32bits or 64bits.. If computer can run 64bits, then install Windows 7 x64 with correct key that works properly on Home or Pro nor Ultimate.. Then you can upgrade to Windows 10, Weather you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate then you can upgrade Windows 10 Pro.. If the Windows 7 is Home editions, then will be upgrade Windows 10 Home. it required High Speed internet to download 4GB files Upgrade !! then once you upgraded, then make sure all driver support with Windows 10 by hardware driver.. Good luck!

    Yes.

But only on TH2, aka 1511, aka build 10586 (and newer) ISOs

    with 10586.1511.0 kit multiple editions

if your product key is writed in bios [oem]
just click [I don't have a product key]

and after first boot and when your internet connection will be ok [online]
your 10 will be activated very fast

even you will not be asket about version : home/core or pro
your product key will choose the proper version corresponding your legit product key

    it works !

    on the other hand
I had a legit 8.1 home oem product key recovered from a dead laptop
[because of too much beer inside keyboard]

I tried to install the recovered product key on other new desktop computer
I tried a lot of isos , I cannot install 8.1 , do not pass product key page

    but , 10 multiple editions 10586.1511.0
accepted the product key , no asking for home/pro
and was activated after first internet online
    with digital entitlement licence a 10 home/core

A win 7 OEM key will not work on a fresh install of WIN 10. If the current Win 7 install is functional, generate the Genuine Ticket and go that route.

Well, I managed to get it once (plain install of W10 1511 without any upgrade, W7 OEM key from sticker, activated fine)

Now I have tried 3 different machines (using different W7 OEM sticker key - never previously used) and each one failed activation.

I could install the key in W10, but trying to activate, it gave all sorts of errors & activation always failed

    Any ideas?

Yep you will be able to activate with a win 7 ,8,8.1 key only if you use the latest iso for the upgrade i.e version 1511 onwards :p

If not clean installing, run sysprep on those machines.
