Hi, I bought a new wifi 802.11ac intel wifi card. I'm obviously stuck with unauthorized network card. Has anyone made a modded bios for the W530 to unlock the wifi / wwan pcie? Thank you
Check out ThinkPad requests thread, or just look at my previous posts - I have successfully flashed T530 with unlocked BIOS. W530 is exactly the same. However, since the standard flashing process verifies digital signature, you have to desolder BIOS chip and flash it on a programmer, then solder it back. That is the only way, unless you could aquire Lenovo private key to re-sign the modified BIOS. Lenovo is very unlikely to leak the key to public.
cheapest usb programmer on ebay EN25T80 and u can try without desolder with a pomona or 3M soic8 test clip and a rubber band to hold it against chip.. but likely need to desolder. u can also make your own spi programmer with Parallel port and some resistors and a diode and power source.. but its unstable. read the chip 2 times and compare each file before doing anything at all. if they match then its stable likely good to write.
Thank you, I ordered a EN25T80 from ebay. I'll give it a try. My W530 warranty expired so, I'll give it a try. Muchas gracias / spaciba! I'll start by reading a tad and see what I can do and I'll get back to you if any questions.
Taktix, are you going to use a SOIC8 test clip or desolder/program/resolder the flash chip? Would you mind taking photos/video as you do the procedure?
I was not successful with a clip without unsoldering from motherboard - my programmer led dimmed when I attached it, giving me an idea that the usb programmer was not capable of driving all the perepherials on the motherboard sharing power with flash chip. Desoldering worked best for me. There are two flash chips on the MB. The larger capacity is the Embedded Controller, while the smaller capacity is the one that you want with BIOS. You would want to extract you BIOS from SPI flash chip, unpack it with PhoenixTool, replace the module called LenovoWmaPolicyDxe with the patched module from the attached file, repack the BIOS and flash it back to the chip. If you have TPM enabled, you'll have beeps on boot that you can ignore. I have also includded the assembler diff file for original and modified assembly source of the module so that you can easily see what has been changed to bypass the whitelist.
i've done the flashing couple months ago using GQ-4X flash programmer bought from mcumall_dot_com. got the modified BIOS from another forum. the modified bios' size was bigger than the one that i got from backing-up using 'fpt64.exe' tool. so i compared both files and cut the modified file to get same file size. then successfully flashing with GQ-4X. now my hackintosh on T430 can browse using any wifi card. i didn't desolder the chip. just clipped the chip with POMONA SOIC. below is the pic
@ucupsz .. maybe the offsets to delete or your bios edited with FD44 editor by CodeRush to remove the serial and uploaded might help? btw off topic that gq-4x can do plcc32 chips with a plcc32 to SOP28 (or 32 i think) adapter (older desktop boards with that square chip) i just had to hotswap one yesterday on a desktop with socket and flashrom .. had to get bios boot menu then switch chip then press enter to boot usb dos for flashrom it worked ) i used a ezp2010 a year ago and liked it but i got a cheapo EN25T80 programmer $8 (ebay) the clip sometimes dont want to stay on chip.. i use a fat rubber band on the clip wrapped around board. i have a T410 with broken screen and thinking of making it osx in future.. so i will need the AR5B91 wifi for it. and the PMPatch bios mod also thanks to CodeRush
Spaciba RussianT530 I unsoldered the SPI2 4MB chip and dumped the bios. I replaced the WMAPolicyDXE Driver with your modded version. I'll try it out and post again here.
