Hi I have a Samsung Ultrabook Series 5 with Windows 8 and I just wiped the HDD to install Windows 7 about a week ago. I now want to go back to windows 8 and I have not backed up my computer or made any recovery media.

I downloaded a Windows 8 ISO and burned to disk and tried to install and get an error saying the product keys does not match any image in the media or something....

How can I get back to having a fully activated W8 on my computer again?

    Many thanks

    Garry

Hi that's great. Must of the instructions are a little bit 'over my head' I'm afraid. How do I know if my Windows 8 was CoreSingleLanguage or CoreCountrySpecific and what is SKU? Sorry for the questions but I am a bit of a Windows novice :)

Recommend a key check prior to any download, so you´ll know for sure, what you need...:D.

yes, this can't be installed via VMware this is the OEM Windows 8 that manufacturers load on the laptops

Thanks, so if someone asks me to reinstall 8 on their laptop that originally came with 8 pre-installed, this would be the disk to use

yup, used it on numerous laptops

it won't even ask for a key provided the laptop came with Windows 8 Single Language which is what 90% of laptops ship with

If you try to install the normal retail Windows 8 it will tell u key mismatch but this works

All my laptops are the other 10% that need the non-CSL lol

I wouldn't say 90% of laptops ship with core single language!! i'd say it's quite the opposite 90% for windows 8 core more like!! not to forget the single language edition = emerging markets!! quite a minority :)

Will this Dell ISO work for me...? Here's my problem. I have an HP ENVY DV7 and it ran into some issues a few weeks after I got it and the online tech guy had me do a system recovery which is on the recovery partition. The re installed Windows 8. Now a few months later I installed a Prolific USB driver, and something went wrong it didnt open up a comm 4 comport so I removed the driver , it then said I need to restart, which I did but then it would not go into Windows it kept saying " Attepting to Repair Files" which it could not do but eventually it went into Windows 8 but was giving me an error, so I decided to do a System Recovery as described on the HP Help file. I followed the steps accurately and it looked like it was doing a re install, however at the very end I get an error saying it could not complete the System Recovery. I then opened a Command prompt, and I looked at the D partition, and the Recovery folder is GONE. The C drive still shows all the folders Windows, Program files etc.... but I have no clue on how to get back into windows. I've tried all the on screen recovery options and it just goes in circles and will not complete. Not even a system restore or anything. So I'm just wondering if I download this DELL ISO and burn it if I can just install Win 8 using that ISO. I see it says it will read my BIOS and get the key from it, so this will work and it will activate it also? I'm somewhat of a novice with Windows 8 I have always worked with earlier versions of Windows, and this Windows 8 is a real bear to understand. My Laptop is an HP ENVY DV7T 7212nr and came with Windows 8 64 bit.. Not Pro just regular version it looks like. No DVD or anything else came with it. Thanks for any help...

walmart sells the HP ENVY DV7T 7212nr and it is regular, not CSL if that helps. I would assume it depends where you purchased it (country etc etc).
