    Hi,

I'm setting up a pc that is bascally just going to be a file server i havfe a much of media that i share accross wy network and view on modded Xboxes so all it needs is smb (network sharing protocol) which can be done in just windows 7. Should i just use 7 or install server 2008 will it be worth it or will i just be wasting resources/memory.

    thanks

    Hi AlbinoMan887,

I've been doing this for years, using an old PC's with big HDD's to serve Media Files both to XBMC Xboxes and Various other Media Players.
First started with Windows 2000 Server, then switched to Windows Home Server (Server 2003 SBS) but any OS will do it. :)

My trick is to have 1 'User' and 'Password' setup to access all the Media Folders, then use that 'User' and 'Password' for all my devices. :D
