And why not to make yourself one?
It is really easy. Unless you have NO XP media at all...

is it possible to do that? sorry I'm a noob. I have lost my XP OEM CD long ago, along with my certificate. but I have the Product ID on a sticker on my PC in the format xxxxx-xxx-xxx-xxx all numbers though. I'm using a retail copy of Win XP SP3, after I reformated my hardrive at the moment. could you direct me where to read about how to do this? thanks!

The product COA is useless for you..Do not plan on using that.

Do you have an oem computer or aftermarket MB. This is fairly important.

You need to know what SLP string in bios. This is what the OEM uses to activate your computer.

You can make the CD before you install the OS or after. You can install SP3 without a serial number, then we can sort it out after, it is up to you.

What you need for OEM CD:

1-- Retail or VLK XP Pro cd

2-- OEMBIOS files for your manufacturer (why we need to know what SLP is in the bios.

    3-- Correct pidgen.dll and Dcpdll.dll files

4-- serial to install..they are in the stickies.

    5-- some time and effort.

If you have an existing install, it is very easy to convert to oem now..

Give me some info on the machine and manufacturer..

I bought the PC from a clone vendor:

    Motherboard: Intel D850OEMV2 - AAA87951-500
    Chipset: Intel i850E Rev A3
    Southbidge: Intel 82801BA (ICH2)
    BIOS: Intel MV85010A.86A.0025.P10.0203282158
    BIOS Date: 03/28/2002

now I remember they gave me a Win XP OEM CD, and a certificate but they are both lost. they also gave me another CD that says "Windows XP OEM Preinstallation Kit" I still have that, I tried booting from it but it doesn't boot not sure what is it used for..

    ok it returned the following:
Windows XP OEMBIOS Test v1.0/168/66 (C) 2007 severach @ msfn forums
None of the 66 contained OEMBIOS sets will preactivate to your system.

I guess this means that only 66 OEM vendors can actually activate Windows XP offline, and the computer supplier who assembled my computer isn't one of them.

hmmm, so how did my computer supplyer activate windows xp? if your not one of those 66 vendors, how do you manage to activate?

and in my case, do I have to use a modded BIOS so it can return a SLIP String?

No, there are more. There were only 66 when the tool was assembled.

You can add the SLP or try the ITK bios flash above. I would try the boot disc first..it is safe..
