Giving a laptop to my parents for christmas that currently has Vista business on it, since Vista is slow I wanted to put on home premium Win 7 64 bit. I have only done a bios mod once before so confused on what to do Its a HP laptop, I can give model
Not meaning to hijack this thread but... I just checked HP's website using this laptop's model number ( 6910p ) as an example and discovered they no longer offer BIOS downloads for this laptop. However I did archive BIOS revisions F0A - F19 for the 6910p back in August of 2013 and can make those available if anyone needs them. There are two major "flavors" of hardware regarding the 6910p, that is a difference in graphics chip. Intel 965 or ATI and it does make a difference when upgrading the BIOS. In regards to the opening post, the first thing you need to do is discover and record which BIOS version is already installed. That can be done by examining the boot screen before any OS begins to load. You may need to enter your BIOS and turn off any graphic boot screen to do so, but if you enter your BIOS, the version should be listed there anyway.
