ok got an asus p4p800 mobo with bios mod which i found here . evrything is fine at least for now . a couple of days ago i downloaded and installed wat and again everything was fine till this morning . when i got a black screen with the windows is not genuine and all that crap . it asked me for a genuine check which i agreed and i proceeded to it also windows was not activated . i passed the genuine check but it also told me that the key i was using was not the correct one .

i use asus 2.1 slic with windows ultimate using an asus ultimate slp key . i have read about the lenovo key getting blacklisted so i thought this would probably be the case with asuses one . i thought about getting a key from another brand for this edition of ulimate . but then i thought about reentering the same key again right clicking my computer and changing the key . i did so entering the same key and was successful in activating and running the genuine key .

question is way did ms say i was deactivated and not using the proper key , when i then entered the same key again and managed to activate and the successful genuine check ?

is ms getting clever or was this just a screw up on their behalf as i dont use any lo der or cracks , just a bios mod with asus 2.1 slci and a legit asus slp key .

    thanks

Did you validate the key at MS website after inserting the key?

Could be the biosmod to, if wat checks biosdate against a list when vendors released genuine slic 2.1 bios on their website and fond
yours not matching but im not sure how far ms have got into this wat thing..

i did run a genuine validation check after inserting the same product key and was successful . i also went into the bios and under system information under ami bios it tells me that the build date is 10/14/04 which i believe translates to 14 october 2004. could this be the problem ?

The only time ms see this date if you post it on site with msdiag.exe and it looks in dmi to see if win xp is good or not

well i've never posted it on site with msdiag so i dont know what it could be . by the way using win7 not xp . maybe it was just a hiccup . anyway there is a way to unistall this update in win7's add/remove program equivalent , maybe i'm thinking of uninstalling it

This is going nowhere... If you read correctly you see he has entered the same key and was successful in activating and running the genuine key again.
So what is this discussion about?

well for me the discussion is about if ms tells me that its not genuine cos the slp key used is not for this version of windows , failing genuine test , then reentering the same key , then passing genuine and validating successfully its either a hiccup or ms is looking at my bios date which i know would fail . thats all .

If it was the bios date that flagged your system as being 'not genuine', do you really think you could re-activate? Think again! :)
