If I have to use this "cloud services", I'll pack the things up and put a pesky password on the zip/rar file.
A long time ago, I set up an SSH server with strong encryption on my server at home to connect to and store my files. Why anyone would use cloud storage is beyond me.
For backups. As everyone may not have a server setup with RAID5/6 and all that available at home and even if there's one, you would still need to back important data from fire/lightening(during storms) etc.
1 example: When I shoot people surfing (sequence shots), its easy to email them a cropped/resized photo but emailing them the whole sequence (16 shots x2 MB ea) doesn't work to good. I upload them to my SkyDrive, make it public & send them a link so they can download them. Works for videos I shoot too. Very handy imo. Edit: Thanks for the reminder xscess
Microsoft is pushing cloud too much for all services, Windows 8/phone/RT and Office. If user whole ID is in digital form (pics, videos, docs, resume, and other sensitive info), it will facilitate spying agencies to profile user with ease and less work in field. M$ might be getting some kind of benefit from all this cloudy cloudy environment
Users could do that well enough in the past with paid (and even some free) services. Only, without that mystical marketing mumbo-jumbo called "cloud".
Dareck, you're right My personal data is: ON hd - ALWAYS AVAILABLE everywhere even when no internet connection... - accessible only by me, at fast speed, even all my c****D progs on cloud - empty, because it is not secure, it is accessible by server owner for no violation laws, it depends ALWAYS on speed, reliability of internet connection, it "can" be accesible by hackers....(nothing to hide... but...) CLOUS SERVICES SUCKS. PS nowadys HD on computers are very big, furthermore USB keys are smaller and more capable(64 gig so....) so really what needs cloud???? Have a nice days Dareck, i will send you a PM, need your help
Just encrypt your files bofore uploading them with a software like truecrypt or gpg4win would be a good idea.
