When connecting some USB drives to the PC, a second drive appears in File Explorer besides the supposed one and it's greyed out. When clicking it, it tells me to insert a disk in it. I have this issue since Windows 7 (at least).
try connecting those problematic usb drives onto other computers (like a 2nd computer or so either from a friend or close neighbor) & check if the problem occurs on the other pcs
@Windows 10 User, Well, Did you ever or consider to flash newer firmware bios??? That really bummer.. Why don't you grab another spare SSD or HDD and take out your C: Drive and nothing else additionally harddrive/SSD are plug in.. then Install Fresh copy Windows OS with meet correct driver that comes Motherboard/Laptop whatever you working on, then see what that USB keep disappeared? So, let see what happen, I had that before to fool around, but I simple move away my good OS that has problems and try other SSD and see why all drivers get odd or bad drivers? ATGPUD2003
I always update the BIOS. I don't have this issue with another external HDD or with this one in another USB port. I also don't have this issue in any of the USB ports in another PC I tested. I already did a clean Windows 11 install in my PC.
OK, So, you saying you still have problem with USB keep same issues after CLEAN install Windows 11 Pro 24H2 or Windows 11 IoT 24H2?? ATGPUD2003
Some USB drives spawn a small emulated CD-ROM drive with drivers, in case the main USB isn't recognized. The emulated drive is supposed to disappear after the driver is installed, but might linger due to a possible firmware or driver bug. Just one possibility.
Have you check the integrity of the flash drive it could be defective, is a generic brand or brand name like PNY or Sandisk , Kingstone.
@Windows 10 User, Can you tell me what brand you are using in Desktop or laptop?? I am trying figure it out to help your end issues USB?? ATGPUD2003
